The “after” Isabella has an unattractive, higher forehead and stark, staring eyes compared to the “before” version…which shows a more flattering hairline and softer, darker eyes.

What the hell is wrong with these people. Ruined a beautiful painting. If you can't do a pre test to qualify by repainting the original as a exact copy... you shouldn't be allowed to restore!

It is memory... and cleaned up... it is like a fairy tale which whispers something lost in it's contextual tumult ...across the generations... only to have the subtlety of its story revealed by the light of the wider world rushing in... it whispers patience. It whispers witness.

Ellen Baxter is an expert resorationist and artist herself. She not only knows how exactly to restore the colors, textures and hues to the original, but also for example what kind of cloth her blouse was made of, the time period it was painted plus the importance of not adding to the original artists' work. Excellent video.

Say what you want, but even though painting over a Renaissance painting for other than conservation work is obscene, the Victorian painter knew his/her way around a paintbrush. The Victorian painting is every bit as good as the original work. Nice to see Isabella back the way she originally was.

The result here is the original face as she was painted in 1500s, the 'pretty' before was actually a result of someone changing the face in 1800s
